BRUXISM
Grinding and clenching teeth (bruxism) is a habit commonly caused by stress or changes to routine. Most people tend to grind or clench of a night time during sleep, and sometimes can be unaware of this habit unless a partner points it out to you!

What is Bruxism?
Bruxism is excessive clenching or grinding of the teeth that is not a part of normal chewing movements. It can lead to excessive wear on the teeth and may cause permanent damage to the teeth and the jaw joints. This is not a healthy action and can occur during the day, or unconsciously at night.

What is a splint?
An occlusal splint is an appliance similar to a mouth guard that is worn at night to protect your teeth and jaw from the effects of grinding and clenching. If you decide with the dentist that an occlusal splint is the best option for you, they will take a set of digital impressions to send to the laboratory. This will be received within 2-3 weeks, at which time we will organise another appointment to fit your new splint and make sure you are comfortable.
